	EUGENIE RASTONIS

	EUGENIE RASTONIS, resident of Winter Springs, was born in Lithuania. After World War II she came to the United States and settled in New York. She studied at the Art Students League and later at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. After graduating from Rhode Island College in 1973 with a degree in Art Education, she taught art in the Massachusetts public school system. Eugenie Rastonis exhibited her paintings in group exhibitions in Rhode Island Art Festivals (1964, 1966), the Lincoln Art Festivals, R.I. (1967, 1968, 1974) and in Lithuanian art exhibitions in New York and Chicago (1970-1978). During the last twelve years, Rastonis, has concentrated her efforts on weaving tapestries. While visiting her homeland, she was impressed by the modern-day tapestries produced in Lithuania. The various fibers that were used to bring out texture and colors were an inspiration to her. In her work Rastonis aspires to reveal the beauty of forms and colors found in nature. Her tapestries have been exhibited in Boston (1988, 1992), New York (1989), the St. Petersburg International Festival in Florida (1990), Falmouth Artist Guild in Falmouth, Massachusetts (1991) and Chicago (1991). In nature I search for inspiration, forms and colors. I am challenged by the changes in nature. I love to observe trees, both young and old, so that I may compare their age to a human life. I often wonder what these trees have seen in their lifetime. These thoughts give me my creative edge.
